    Tap for spoiler

He didn’t just think he’d be a good ruler, he also knew his involvement would sent in motion a catastrophic jihad that would drown the universe in blood.

He knew he was the opposite of Jesus and that his family were just like the Harkonens but more subtle

Maybe a spoiler since I don’t know the movie touches on it, but besides Paul’s father they are all Harkonnens or part Harkonnen.

Yes, but also… while the jihad would lead to billions of deaths, the state of the galaxy at that time was so stagnant that him not acting would lead to far worse results. So Catch-22 - he was doing the best thing for the very long run, and just didn’t have the ability/strength/balls to go far enough himself.

I know he suddenly regretted what he was starting but did he not have the balls or is drowning the universe in blood just such a momentous task that one guy and a planet of extremists can’t do it all in a single generation of time?

Okay fuck it, gonna reread it now. Maybe this will make me want to watch the show

I seem to remember it’s a bit of both. Paul already has the problem of suddenly being able to see all the paths. To stay sane just from that point is commendable. But that’s a lot to carry. Still not as much as his sister, who never had a chance to form her own identity before being hit with knowing everything from past mothers, with everyone in her head.
