Shortly before becoming prime minister, he apologised for Labour’s initial response to Israel’s military action in Gaza, saying the party “didn’t get it right” and needed to “do better” under his leadership, signalling a significant shift in the UK’s approach to the Middle East.
This line literally made me tilt my head. The Guardian can’t make up their mind whether Burnham is the reason the relationship with Israel is strained, or whether Barnham becoming PM is going to make it better.

On the other hand a single digit percentage of the UK population are Muslim (6%), and dude, we’ve been a monarchy for all bar a couple of decades of the last 1500 years.
The Muslim thing is less a worry than trying to pretend one of the longest running monarchies around is a republic, I mean it’s just delusional.
In the last millenium England has only been a republic for the couple of decades in the 1600s when Cromwell took over and executed the king. Scotland has been a monarchy the entirety of the last millenium, Wales has been under the English monarchy since the Normans finished slaughtering them in the 1300s.

Tbf, generally the UK on the whole is much more accepting than a lot of other places. There are noisy and growing fringe movements, but the quiet majority of Brits just want everyone to queue up and get on with it.
