Its an old LG, but given the recent light on the lengths they’ll go to spy on us, I figured this guy was better off without any ability to even connect wirelessly. Don’t know if the Ethernet still works but I plan on keeping my TVs as dumb as possible, HDMI only.
If you’re wondering how to open lg TVs you just have to remove all the screws then start pulling open at the bottom and open the clips going up. With the TV face down on a soft surface just keep pulling on the back case from the bottom, it’ll take some effort to pop open. The top edge folds open more like a hidge than clips.

Ok, but, how big would the file size be for the recordings? I doubt tv manufacturers would ship tvs with insane amounts of storage just so they can keep recordings.
It can (does!) run speech to text locally. All of The Lord of the Rings has 481,103 words. That’s about 2.8 MB.
Aren’t our other devices like firesticks listening too? The firestick and Apple TV remotes have microphones too, right?
Those run off USB power so if the TV isn’t on and powering the device, it can’t do anything.
Comcast gave me a remote when I started. I opened it up, shoved a pin in the mic hole and scrambled it until it couldn’t recognize anything. Then I filled it with super glue.
Orders of magnitude. The LG TVs are full PCs, not single chip system. They arerunning image recognition on anything displayed on screen (not just from its own apps), transcribing anything they hear on microphones. Your fire stick will just phone home about what it is doing only. It’s not a central hub of information.
