So far I use: Matrix, Friendica, Lemmy, PieFed. I also follow 1 or 2 persons on Mastodon, using Friendica.

I want to try vutuv now. Maybe in the future some more services.

Now I wonder if I should really register a new account for each service. May I ask for your advice? What do you recommend?

You pretty much have to, yeah. Each platform has its own optimizations for its type of content, like Loops specializes in videos and the Threadiverse in link aggregation or text and pics.

That said, you can check out Mbin to at least lessen the number of accounts somewhat: it looks to me too focused on the needs of microblogging (e.g. longer titles that even span multiple lines), and last I checked had an enormous amount of wasted space for more Threadiverse style content (with tiny titles, perhaps a single word even). Although even noticing that could make you feel better about creating a new account for each service:-). It just goes with the territory.

Likewise, PieFed allows integration with Friendica and is expanding upon tighter integration with Mastodon… but it is primarily optimized for integration with Lemmy-style content more than anything else.

I have three accounts currently. One on piefed, one on a regional lemmy account and one for porn. Nothing wrong having multiple accounts to see what you like

No offense, but sounds like you’re trading one social media addiction for another. If you’re just checking them out, why even make an account? I thought the whole point of the fediverse was to use an account and go across services? I’ve seen piefed stuff on Lemmy and iirc, mastadon too.

i only stay on one platform at a time, i only move if something significant happens to lemmy. i wouldnt be able to keep up with that many, it does sound like its more than op can handle.

Not all the different services talk to each other in a way that you can use just 1 account for the entire fediverse. Lemmy, Piefed and Mastodon can all cross communicate (tho afaik Mastodon is one way only-you can post to Lemmy from Mastodon, but not Lemmy to Mastodon); but none of them communicate with Matrix. So you need at least 2 accounts if you wanted to use all of these services.

That’s absolutely NOT the whole point.
The main point is to avoid vendor lock-in, and monopolistic abuses.

If you make a pixelfed account somewhere and want to follow Lemmy conversations, you’ll have trouble for a number of reasons.

Different services have different functions, even within microblogging and different apps support different sites, don’t think any support all services on activityhub at once.

Do you get any benefits from the accounts? You can subscribe to Lemmy communities from Piefed and vice versa. Piefed can now follow Mastodon users iirc. So do you get any benefits from having accounts on both Lemmy and Piefed separately? Are there other benefits to a Friendica account for you than following Mastodon accounts?

That’s the important question really. If they don’t have anything to offer to you that the others already provide, then you don’t need that account.

I think mastodon is best used on apps made for it, does piefed work on icecube or any other iphone app?

“Should”? That’s really only for you to determine. I get why you want to try them out one by one, like using Piefed and Lemmy in parallel. It gives you a chance to weigh pros and cons of different services, or different ways to interact with them.

Vutuv… again, it’s your choice, but for me, LinkedIn turned me completely off professional networking. I’m going to wait that one out to be sure it isn’t flooded with the same icky performance measuring jargon before I even consider joining. Also, Vutuv looks vibe coded, so another big nope for me.

I think you’re being generous counting Matrix in the Fediverse, though. It may be decentralised, but unless there are some bridges I’m not aware of, it doesn’t really communicate with any fediverse services?

Friendica is nice, I like using it to follow all lemmy communities id subscribe to, I like how posts and comments show up in the feed, plus you can be snoopy and see who dislikes what
