My friend’s on reddit a lot, uses it for support questions and reviews mostly, but got fed up with the bullshit toxicity there.

A few days ago I suggested she check out Lemmy, there’s less content, but generally fewer toxic communities and we scrolled a bit.

She checked it out, didn’t understand a meme on WomensStuff, had me ask them about it, and was so put off by their responses that was the end of lemmy for her.

    Yup. A fairly normie friend liked the idea of switching from reddit. She blithely assumed as a virulently anti trump Democrat, she was a lefty because that’s what almost all of popular discourse would have you believe. I don’t know exactly what she said or what came back at her but as she put it “I said something wrong and had a dozen people calling me a fascist, shit lib etc. Even reddit feels less crazy.”

      I think that was the first time I ever interacted with Womennsstuff, but sometimes that roulette wheel does not pay out.
