it was this weird period of time during mid 2000s when russian propaganda started to really amp up old soviet imperialist narratives (the continuing demonization of Bandera, Holodomor denial, etc etc etc) and lots of folks started to fall for it even though the truth was a google search away. shit was ugly.

fall for it even though the truth was a google search away.

If only having the sum total of human knowledge in your pocket actually protected against propaganda and misinformation.

or scihub if you’re feeling spicy. and everyone in every argument would do that all the time to cite every little thing. duh. either way it requires actually giving a damn and those who say stupid shit don’t give a damn so the arguing with idiots principle applies.

      the continuing demonization of Bandera

If you find yourself going “Hey actually the figurehead of an organization that was more interested in doing crimes against humanity against ethnic minorities to fight the fucking nazis gets a bad rap” maybe it’s time to reevaluate your takes.

it’s way more complicated than that and that’s not the place to discuss it.

          No, it’s not that complicated.

Russian cultural chauvinism was a problem for the USSR and has only gotten worse, but if find yourself defending a fascist, you’re either a nazi or have been duped by nazis.

you also forgot polish chauvinism and whole lotta causality out of there and a shitton of historical context all around - which means you’re oversimplifying which is not a good way to talk history. that’s why i say that this is not a place to discuss it. if you want to discuss these matters in detail - private messages are right there, you’re welcome.
