    I have not seen that particular cartoon.

    However, a common criticism is that there are only a handful of Garfield cartoon “templates” with some bits swapped out, and I have seen plenty of Garfield cartoons in approximately this format: three panels, Garfield is bored, John is emotional, Garfield is bored.

      Awesome bit of digging! I’d never seen those earlier strips of his, and I’ve seen a lot of comics in my life.

      That’s indeed one of the strip templates that renders Garfield almost unreadable to me. One character’s completely absorbed in laziness, jadedness and aloofness, and one character is completely, inanely over the top as a counterpoint. That generally doesn’t entertain me, and I can’t relate to them, but then that’s just me.
