Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What's a food related action you'd consider wrong?
31·1 day agoAll fair points.
But I still don’t get why anyone would order a mushroom burger with no mushrooms.
I know, an exaggeration of an example, but I can’t personally think of a food order like this that would be acceptable. If you want a burger, and the only serve one burger, it ain’t going to be a mushroom burger on the menu. Just order something else! Every menu has literal pages worth of dishes, but you can’t find one that would satisfy you? I just find it weird that people care that much about having a ‘perfect’ experience.
Maybe its because when I go to a restaurant 90% of the time its because I just don’t want to cook/clean, not because I want a specific type of food.
Definitely.
It seems that populism/fascism is ‘ingrained’ in our simple minds. But that begs the question, why do some of us reject it? Random chance, empathy, or education?

3·1 day agoYeah I guess I should of noted that this was like one of the first things I selfhosted 2 years ago and its like one of the very few things that never breaks or annoys me. It just works very reliably.
Plus you also self host your calendar and contacts list with this.

58·1 day agoRequesting for modifications to a menu item when you got a restaurant.
The chef works day in and out, and his one job is to make food fast and consistently; and of course taste great. But then a picky eater comes along and says ‘can I get this without tomato?’ or ‘can I get a different type of bread?’
Restaurants are probably one of the most common establishments in the world, and you choose one that you could not find ANYTHING on the menu you liked? Ridiculous and and an insult to the chef. If you don’t like their food, don’t go there or suck it up. Like seriously, it is one of the most childish behaviors adults are socially accepted to do, because most people treat workers like their personal slaves when it comes to customer service.
I bet it would be a lot different if the chef was taking an order instead of having the middleman of the waiter, lot more respect would be given. Also, I never see anyone asking for these stupid requests when it comes to home meals/potlucks. Probably because you are too scared to hurt Joann’s feelings, but no problem when it comes a nameless/faceless restaurant employee.
Allergies are an obvious valid exception.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•You're informed before your death that you will be reincarnated as another human being but with choices as to what to retain from your past life, what are they?
181·1 day agoWhat is a grey world resident?
I would of course choose to keep all my memories/cognition starting as a baby. Anime isekai has demonstrated that is more than enough to get a HUGE head start in life.
Maybe keep my old body? Its definitely not perfect: flat footed, need glasses, skin cancer likely, dementia is a maybe, etc. But at the same time, a lot of other people have it worse so I would be re rolling the die on that one, which could end up MUCH worse for me.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What do I tell my (republican) parents when they constantly bring up expensive gas prices and put the burden on California because of gas taxes and "stupid" regulatory fees?
9·2 days agoThe answer is obviously ‘it depends’.
Do you want to be an asshole to your parents? Do you want to keep things civil?
The most responsible and mature answer is probably, just ignore them and actively be out of their communication reach. This means physically (don’t be in the same room/house as them) and digitally (turn off notifications from them).
Proton Pass for me since I use their VPN.
Vaultwarden for selfhosting.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What communities DON'T you want to see here?
4·2 days agoI don’t want to see ‘explain the joke’ communities.
Some jokes are meant to be inside jokes, do your own research it takes a few secs, and the communities just become repost farms.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What is something that you want but can't justify to do / buy right now ?
7·2 days agoUpgrade my server/storage. I only have 1.5tb of storage total for everything including my music, shows, etc.
But I am able to manage it, so I can’t really justify buying more storage for it when I technically don’t need it.

Define cancel culture.
Do you mean accountability, either socially or legally? Do you mean people complaining about someone and their behavior on the internet?
‘cancel culture’ is just a phrase like ‘woke’ is. No real definition behind it and only real use is to dogwhistle to others saying your ‘in the group’.
