Not just commonwealth though, mainland Europe uses kettles too.

What’s wrong with making it optional?
I can’t use half my kitchen when having a migraine.

My 20 year old microwave has multiple beeps? Like soft ones when you press stuff, a couple of loud ones when it’s done. Some acoustic feedback is nice.
My recent kitchen appliances just beep the same volume regardless of what’s happening. To loud when using the device, to soft to properly notify you when completing a task. That air fryer experience hits close to home. Fuck modern appliances. Although my new washing machine is a shitload more efficient.
I don’t want smart tech, I want old fashioned pre 2008 dumb tech. Just make it home assistant compatible, kthx.

How are they casually finding these home assistant servers? I sure hope people dont have port 8123 exposed publicly like that? Are you all broadcasting it in to the ether?

It’s been that case since forever now. Nothing has really changed and the same rules still apply.
I still remember ‘hacking’ my ISP ADSL router 2+ decades ago and listening to the WAN interface. Hundreds of thousands of attempts per day in the early 2000s. Mostly US, Russia and China.
My personal #1 threat on the internet for the past 20 years has been DDOS and thanks to billions of IOT devices and privacy invading ‘smart’ appliances everywhere… The botnets have never been this plenty. DDOS as a Service for mere cents a day.
LLM’s joined the fray in recent years but it still can’t do anything it hasn’t learned from us humans.

i mean, yeah they were memes and used as memes.
You’d just be chilling on IRC or the alt-binaries somewhere for your daily dose of Warez, random link appears, you click it. BWAM Goatse in your face. And people where laughing.
These early rotten.com-like memes are basically the source for the Rickroll, the not being able to trust links thankfully turned in to a fun song.

I still use icanhazip.com to find my wan ip.

These fine owls are still living rent free in my head.
But the worst are probably Goatse, 2girls1cup, 1guy1jar, all the nazi ascii stuff. Modern day memers have it easy.

Weirdly enough i saw a massive increase in little typoes on reddit this year. More typoes and such in a few months than i saw in years.
It feels like LLMs started making mistakes on purpose.
I have a console window open on my debian desktop that is eating 5.1gb.
That’s almost all just text in the tabs.
Stuff also just takes a lot of memory.
