These ‘options’ fundamentally don’t work. Even if they were in good-faith one of their partners will still collect and transmit data you’ve generated. The whole industry is built on a no-consent model: it’s software; people can’t see or hear what software is doing; keep it in the background. Any attempt to revoke consent in a no-consent industry is futile. What’s not futile is taking control of your computers and not running their proprietary spyware software in the first place.

Is there really a point to this? Similar time-frame as you. Old CPUs are pretty much trash. It works. No one would buy it though. Applying thermal-paste would do what? Make it run a bit cooler? I don’t even monitor the temperature… I’m writing from a place of ignorance. I do think things should be properly maintained; I just hadn’t thought of reapplying thermal-paste before.

I don’t live in the U.K., but I’ve heard of councils turning streetlights off and reducing their services because they have ‘no money’. From the outside looking in it looks bleak.
