Idk my airbnb had a heat alarm fitted on the ceiling directly above the stove, so when we decided to cook we discovered that it sets off above 45°C, is not a smoke alarm, and we were already overwhelmed with stress before that cataclysmic screech. I smashed it off the ceiling (because I can’t think through the noise to find the latch), told them “fuck you, hated the stay,” and I never got a fine. Left the pieces of alarm where they lay.

I measure time by the sci-fi periods we pass. Obviously BTTF I was a big year. The world as we knew it ended the year after. Next is I,Robot in 2035 iirc, then Blade Runner 2042

41·2 days agoA lot of folk decry Cloudflare as a terrible corp (and their AI push now involves the login page shunted to the side while 70% of the screen is a relatively blank section with some sentence about using their AI), but what is the non-3rd party alternative? Does one rely on sharing the IP instead? It is impossible to have public (non-family) traffic without a Cloudflare/Google DNS resolver right?
Being on a standard ISP I cannot use a higher-level rDNS.

1·11 days agoIt’s pretty much neutral for me also aha, and yeah I meant running up one of several TPUs of several servers of several pods of several clusters of my region’s copy of Google Gemini.
I did a bit of research on the scale of Gemini
As of last year, each TPU has 32GB of HBM VRAM; there are 8 TPUs in a host server; 32 hosts in a ‘pod’; in a mid-sized Europe hub of which there are several dozen, around 24 pods make up an inference cluster, which does one of image generation, coding etc.; several inference clusters in a regional cluster, and that is Gemini. Each regional cluster/hub around the world is essentially a livesynced copy of a Gemini instance.
The EU hub I researched had, last year, the rough equivalent of 250TB of VRAM and 1.4PB of system RAM.

To be frank it was a very small space aha - kitchen was just round a corner from the living space, almost 3 walls of a square, and about 1.5 metres wide. Nowhere for the heat to go but up
