Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Best actually practical use cases for old tech?
1·3 days agoSo there was this fiction book series I read about cybersecurity. Old tech is the ultimate security in the story, it’s creepy how parallel it is to today. You would have to take some extra steps to make it secure but you would be out of the radar of the majority.
The whole premises is like how Macintosh was considered being secure was because nobody wanted to waste their finding vulnerabilities to it since it was such a small batch of users. Of course that changed. But you can use what you have as dedicated forks for certain functions as a layer of security. W11 is going to likely have more vulnerabilities compared to W7 since no one really uses it anymore. Or even LTSB/LTSC forks. You would have to be on a list if you’re getting attention.

Truck-kun, please take me to a nice isekai. Actually it doesn’t have to be that nice, as long as it’s not Redo of a Healer. Taylor Farms already had their way with me.

Wow lucky. A baseball field here was repaired by taxpayer dollars under the guise that it will be paid for by FEMA; then they don’t know when that payment will happen, only a portion will be paid compared to the final cost. Oh yeah and the lame baseball team is going to another city. Cool, not that I care since I only went to one game in 20 years. And there’s a shortage in city funds to fix infrastructure. Go figure
Off topic, I find it comforting. A box of ashes doesn’t amount to a place you have memories in.
Edit: But I will say that fucking AC unit seems specifically to always turn on when I have to take a dump and it’s the coldest part of the house.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Gamers of Lemmy, how do you mouse on the couch?
11·3 days agoYou can use a ducky mini 2 (60%) (three levels of keys/macros and mouse function); but really just use a controller. Or just get $1200 Steelcase chair and get the mouse pad addition. Also you can get a laptop stand for like $40 and use that, as in they can slide under your chair and give you platform to put your mouse and drinks on.

4·5 days agoAll good. You’d be surprised how many customers or business men I’ve seen buying Gunpla in Akihabara or Fukuoka with gray hair when I was visiting.
Both of your comments are valid points.
So the point missed is that the goal is prison labor. Why pay someone to process toll booths on a computer for a few dollars a day while having the taxpayer cover their expense and pay for the prison?

With all the food recalls, I’m sure plumbing is a high demand job.
Jokes aside; trades suck. If you like hot ass heat, cramped places, constant injuries, buying your own tools, ruining your body before you reach forty, and annoying customers; then it’s the job for you. This is an anecdotal take but yeah it’s not fun. I wouldn’t be exaggerating if I say I wish I did anything else for the last ten years. The money was good but the added pain isn’t worth it.

My iphone really doesn’t like that I have aluminum tape on the cameras and a water resistant case that I have to essentially shove in my mouth and use speaker by my ear to use it.
=/ I would have bought a few if I knew.

Okay, I laughed, I guess this circumvents this requirement. In Japan you can get a live, as in still living, fish to eat. Few restaurants still do it, it’s called Ikizukuri. I didn’t get it because it was too weird.
