Imagine this: instead of removing a full lane and just making the rest 33% wider, you remove that lane, make the car lanes 10% wider, and use the rest of the free space for a 2-way bike lane. There’s no way that 5 minute driving commute would be more than 20-30 minutes by bike. Less by ebike.
Why would widening the lanes make it safer? Usually wider lanes are more dangerous due to higher speeds.
Kinda weird to see my hometown on Lemmy, but kinda fun I guess. I feel like the WDRB segment is slightly misleading because it doesn’t acknowledge the Big Four bridge that most affected traffic could take instead. It’s a toll road now, so I get why people, myself included, don’t want to take it. There’s also the Sherman Minton which might be an option but a little farther out of the way.
But also, yeah those two southbound, even northbound, lanes are pretty tight and can be a bit spooky to go over. Honestly seems like a reasonable safety improvement that people of kentuckiana will absolutely not be interested in.
Obligatory, fuck mike braun
Shouldn’t they just reduce the speed limit if the lanes are too narrow to drive safely?
That bridge is a deathtrap.
Damn I thought this was regarding India what with the recent push for walk-ability; this is so fucking shameful.
