A mapping tool to show how much space is dedicated to cars in our cities compared to space for peds, bicycles, green and even buildings. Find an intersection or neighbourhood on the map - or upload your own aerial photo - and start mapping how much space is allocated to cars, pedestrians and bikes [by leveraging data from OpenStreetMaps, so if you have ever contributed to it, kudos to you too]

The developers of Cities: Skylines famously tried to be realistic about parking, but realized that it would be extremely tedious having to constantly click-drag your way through parking lot after parking lot.

If parking lots are too tedious to click through, imagine how tedious they are to traverse IRL.

It’s missing a “mixed” area representation. For example, some streets are pedestrian or bike first but allow cars for resident access and deliveries.

That much room for cars on a little island is insane. Seems like the ideal situation for 2 wheel locomotion, with maybe just a few microcars for people/businesses/services that really need them.

Would also help them with energy independence. It doesn’t take much solar to charge e-bikes or e-motos. Currently they’re nearly 100% fossil fuels. And the island is only 20 miles long at most, range isn’t massively important.

I think if you are dividing pedestrians moving versus pedestrians “staying” (building but also parks) you should also divide cars into roads and parking. I’d actually be curious how much of car space is just parking.

the worst part IMO is all the non-parking parking area, just for cars to get to the actual parking spaces.
It’s a big upside of parking right next to roads, it doesn’t require a whole extra fucking road that barely gets used for anything.
