“Abundance of knowledge does not teach men to be wise/intelligent”, wrote Heraclitus ~2500 years ago. Even then people knew that distinction. Even then ignorant people thought themselves wise or intelligent because they had education, because why otherwise would the philosophers mention that :)
But there was a belief that demonstrating that education did correspond to intelligence! I’m not saying it’s accurate!
