So not only do we hoard the world’s stolen riches and culture in our museums, but now the plan is to charge the people who these pieces potentially descend from to even see them? Greeks paying to see their own marbles. Egyptians paying to see their own mummies.

This just brings us in line with most of Europe.
Admittedly, I’d like to see something whereby if you produce British ID you get to go in so still keeping UK people free from charges. Failing that, standard charge for all UK Citizens (or a discounted yearly pass like National Trust) and one for non UK visitors. All UK students must always have free access.
Doesn’t matter if it brings us inline with Europe, it’s wrong there too.
Our museums should be free to all not just students and British citizens.

How would you feel if this tourist tax was instead charged at the point of an overnight stay? I feel like this is the more common option across Europe, but also has been criticised pretty heavily.
I don’t like that either, culture should not be taxed.
We live in a world where everything we do is increasingly being turned into a for profit business. We should be allowed at least one safehaven.

Admittedly, having to carry around ID constantly on the off chance that you fancy a visit to a museum, and having your visit logged by way of your ID, sounds dystopian as fuck in an increasingly dystopian world. All students of life must always have free access.
