Finally managed to kill the procrastination and switch today. It was smooth and simple. My life is almost entirely unchanged by this step.

It was a toss up between debian and Ubuntu, so I decided to race them against each other in the download window and see which one won. Debian 13 just took the cake! Let’s see how long it stays…

Debian is a good choice, I would encourage you to never touch Ubuntu or any of it’s derivatives.

The short answer is to just search for reasons why people don’t like Ubuntu. They are many, and varied.

FWIW, Ubuntu used to be seen as the default choice, and these days there are just so many better options.

Debian is an excellent choice. I run Debian KDE on one of my computers.

Short answer for one of the reasons: the default “app store” nowadays installs basically the entirety of your OS again for every application.

My reason is dependance on a for-profit corporarion, regardless of the actual distribution.

I’m on Debian as well :)

+1 Hannah Montana Linux. Has been the most satisfying, user friendly and stable distro ever. In an ideal world, we all would be using Hannah Montana Linux.
