The type of recruiter is a missing detail there. If you work with a “headhunting” agency they have connections to positions they don’t have anywhere else. If you can build a good relationship with a strong recruiter, you can land some pretty sweet gigs. My last two jobs were through the same recruiter I’ve known for over a decade. Stuck with him even as he changed agencies.

Might be. I’ve only ever had contact with absolute imbeciles. So bad, that I just ignore every headhunter request coming in.
