A Human‑Rights Crisis Emerging in NHS Policy
In a recent interview on Times News, the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Yvette Cooper, stated that under the new legal framework following the EHRC Code of Practice and the Supreme Court’s judgment in FWS v SGM, trans patients may be placed on single‑sex NHS wards according to their “sex assigned at birth.” Her justification was terse and emphatic: “The law’s the law.”
It’s isn’t law though?
Asserting that it is is not a neutral stance. It’s a transphobic one. They want it to be law, but it isn’t and doesn’t have to be.
Love when politicians come out and say what they are, managers of the capitalist system, who basically never have to actually “govern” and instead just fiddle and poke around at the edges.
“The law is the law” is code for, “we have no intention of challenging a judicial decision with a political ruling, which we are perfectly capable of doing”.
