Over the course of my life, DRM-restricted streaming services. I once thought people would be naturally against that. You’re going to want to have your own copy of media you love to keep forever, right? Apparently I was wrong.
I can kind of understand DRM in subscription streaming services. What I don’t understand at all is people paying to “buy” DRM-protected media where you don’t even get a local copy, like all major digital movie purchase platforms.

If you want to watch all the popular shows, you’ll need $150+ of streaming subscriptions, you’ll need to log in to them all on your TV, and you’ll need to use the clunky shitty apps to watch your shows which might have ads in them.

You subscribe to to at a time for 20 bucks, them swap to another service if you get bored.

Constantly switching subscriptions is also far from convenient though
what are you talking about? it takes like 5 seconds to cancel a service and 5 seconds to sign up for another one. especially if you already had an account because all your info is already saved.

i swap streaming services every 3-4 months. it’s ridiculously easy and fast.
Yes, I did use these streaming services before. That it’s not difficult to do does not make it any less inconvenient. I have not had to think about what streaming service a movie or show is on for a few years now, I can tell you it’s great.
Also they make it not difficult on purpose, so it’s easier for you to spend your money with them on a whim. Not relevant to the original argument, but also more shitty behaviour from these services.
I still can’t imagine listening to my favourite song knowing that some company can take that away from me on their whim. I couldn’t even enjoy that song under those terms. Maybe some people just don’t value music the way I do.

I don’t listen to music I listed to 20 years ago. And when I hear it I think it’s shit and I’m embarassed I listened to it.
Most physical media still has region restrictions and other license restrictions. Look at the Xbox and it refused to play people’s physical disks… Sometimes you can get a region free DVD/BR player but often not. And all those have DRM built in. So you’re not streaming the DRM you just physically own the DRM. Cool.
And HDMI with drm built in…
Yeah that’s almost as bad but represents a relatively small period in the history of physical media, that’s why I point to streaming mainly. Though at least you could look after your physical media without having it turned off when some streaming service decides to. I grew up in the era of cassette tapes and wouldn’t have dreamed of buying music without making a cassette backup and that wasn’t even abnormal.
