The OG Luddites are victims of bad press and propaganda against them. As a whole, they were less against progress in general and more against how only factory and business owners benefited from that progress, while workers got very little benefit, often instead losing their livelihoods.

Even within a city, bus travel is usually much slower than a car. Because you have to wait to get on the bus, and then the bus is making many stops along the way to load and unload. And it probably also isn’t going directly to where you need to go and probably doesn’t stop directly in front of where you live, so you need to add walking/bike riding to the beginning and end of the trip.

I’m a big proponent of bus travel, but let’s not kid ourselves here – choosing the bus can easily make a 30 minute car ride into a 2 hour bus ride overall.

The fun part is that this is a portrait painted by someone who was hired to make the likeness as flattering as possible. This is the dude from his best angle, with the best possible lighting, with an artist taking license with the details to make it look better. And he still looks this way.

It did some really cool experimental stuff as well, such as:

• An episode that’s 90% the main character’s monologue, delivered straight into the ‘camera’.

• An episode from the perspective of someone with advanced dementia, where a lot of the important details are scribbled out.

• An episode from the perspective of someone who’s (perhaps) dying, and it’s all explicitly stated to be a hallucination as their neurons are misfiring.

• A lot of exploration into themes of nihilism and pointlessness.

And it all works. That show is amazing.
