I like LLMs even with their (big and inherent) flaws.

However, I also don’t like it to be sprinkled everywhere. I want affordable smaller LLMs that run locally on my own hardware. RAM prices right now make that financially impossible for me.

That way I’m the one who has to deal with the flaws (even more with smaller LLMs) and the energy prices but on the other hand it’s private and I have sovereignty. Nobody can turn off features or change the model or increase subscription prices or change the API or steal my data.

Anyone remembers ReiserFS?

Ok, I’m old. When I started writing software, the licenses where not a big issue. I mean GPL & BSD existed and where important but most newbies wouldn’t think about publishing their shitty first steps and wouldn’t even understand how to use 3rd party libraries. There was no GitHub (I believe Sourceforge existed) and package managers where not very common. I mean Linux had them but Linux was quite a bit more difficult to run (installation, drivers, graphics etc).

So software licenses where a topic but not at introduction level.

What’s so political about hello world, data structures and algorithms?

Similar here with almost all “social” jobs. Treated like shit but mostly from the inside. No money, super hard work with lots of risks but also super toxic work environments with psychopaths at the top and higher positions. At the same time the worker bees behave like hostages because if they protest or don’t work someone is going to die.

I don’t work a social job but my sister does and I’ve heard a lot to come to this conclusion.
