Seems like if it could do full XR maybe it could work via positioning without a camera, particularly at a distance where accuracy won’t matter so much (make it larger+closer). Mapping every billboard would be a community effort. Art selection, too… though I wouldn’t trust people to not put their own self-promotion up either.

It also wouldn’t help with branded trucks.

I mean it probably does cover that, one concept is bridging (connections between different groups, someone you met by chance not because they’re your neighbor) and political polarization has actually increased due to our voting system.

Similarly I’d bet a lot of people only called themselves christian because it really wasn’t a choice (upbringing, peer/family/institution pressure, cognitive dissonance), the sort of thing that makes a lot less sense in recent years where hypocrisy is on full display (be it politics, cover-ups, or megachurches).

For race, I think the most homogeneous communities that exist probably are still more alone today. A lot of the community options were built around places or conditions that disappeared and never recovered, or clubs that may still exist but don’t get new members.

I don’t actually care about it either (or any sport, really) but it was once a symbol for social connection, and y’know the book Bowling Alone.

Bowling together. (And a lot of other social things that are a result of a lack of trust, not lacking trust directly related to said activity… unless you’re counting high cost/private equity as part of broken trust)

On Lemmy, the save function (star icon) does give a number beside the comment count icon. Like 4 comments (2 new). Still a manual check, though.

Also Lemmy’s comment discovery (the chat sort method) is harder to follow with context, not as good as Kbin’s unread highlighting was.
