Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•State, Suffolk leaders propose widening Sunrise Highway to Exit 59English
1·1 hour agoFolks can contact the NYS Legislature and express their concerns with this proposal and recommend using tax dollars in a way that helps more New Yorkers. Some ideas could be repairing deficient bridges, or reducing sewage dumped into the Hudson River, or paying teachers more… but don’t listen to me, one ought to tell his or her legislator what’s important to he or she.

41·19 hours agoSo I recently quitted Google Drive
Congrats, great life choice
downloaded all my data and hoping to keep it on Hard drives myself, They are external plug in types
You have multiple external drives. Are they USB? How many?
So when I plug it in
Are they not usually plugged in? Is there a requirement to keep them air gapped between syncs?
it copies/syncs the things on my computer, anyone knows somethign like that?
Like others have said, a shell script that calls rsync is maybe the way to go and with some more information on number of drives, drive interface type, and air gap requirements it may change
Nope, I’m accessible on the WAN and the webserver is intentionally public facing.
Edit: AllowUsers in sshd.conf is my access control
I operate SSH, nginx, and uvicorn like this:
SSH
- pubkey auth only
- not on default port
- AllowUsers var in sshd.conf is set
nginx
- runs as its own user
- serves static files or forwards to uvicorn
- rate limits are set
- returns 444 on requests that aren’t in sitemap.xml (nonsense and probing)
uvicorn
- runs as its own user
and a firewall runs on top of everything in a hardened kernel. I’m self taught, so I could be missing something obvious and this setup has been reliable for me for a few years.

Fuck Cars@lemmy.world•Mayor Mamdani calls for crackdown on New York City's worst drivers after series of hit-and-run deathsEnglish
29·2 days agoThe plan also calls for state lawmakers to pass a proposed “Drugged Driving Bill,” which would allow prosecutors to charge drivers using drugs that impair driving.
This isn’t already a thing?
It further called for lawmakers to pass legislation allowing the seizure of license plates from reckless drivers and to establish higher penalties for repeat offenders.
Too lenient IMO and it’s a start.

Bicycling@lemmy.world•Police in Kirkby-in-Ashfield seize customised bike 'capable of 28mph'English
35·7 days agoDoesn’t say exactly why the police seized this bike. It implies that I wasn’t insured or the operator didn’t have a license, but it doesn’t actually state the fact.
Looks like fuel for another “we need to regulate” push

14·7 days agoAn 18-year-old man driving a white Nissan Pathfinder northbound on Bathurst Street lost control and mounted the curb near Lonsmount Drive, striking the woman who was walking on the sidewalk, police said.
This is a residential area with a posted speed of 40kph. Losing control doesn’t make sense.

3·7 days agoThe best way to improve Ottawa…
It’s not something obvious like:
- streamlining permitting for small business
- expand mixed use building zones
- reduce parking minimums for new housing development
They’re saying the BEST thing to do is to make parking free?

5·8 days agoIt’s kinda weird to see a city experience traffic violence, have a vote to mitigate a high risk route, and then have the vote pass unanimously. I feel like it should work that way, but its refreshing to see it happen.

16·8 days agoAs a bicycle, I’m all about it. Imagine lights timed to a 20-25mph speed limit? tits.

153·8 days agoIMO, the limit should be 0.00. Motor vehicles kill plenty people with a sober driver. This is a step in the right direction and I hope other states follow the lead.
