State and Suffolk County leaders are calling for an expansion of Sunrise Highway, pointing to a section near Exit 53 in Patchogue where the roadway narrows from three lanes to two.

Officials are proposing extending the third lane in both directions for more than 10 miles, from Exit 53 at Route 112 to Exit 59 at Wading River Road.

    @lntl Suffolk County accounted for a QUARTER of the road fatalities in downstate NY counties, 2020-2024. Now the people in charge who’ve been building tons of wide roads for decades want to spend millions of our tax dollars to widen Sunrise Highway again. Can we stop this?

      Folks can contact the NYS Legislature and express their concerns with this proposal and recommend using tax dollars in a way that helps more New Yorkers. Some ideas could be repairing deficient bridges, or reducing sewage dumped into the Hudson River, or paying teachers more… but don’t listen to me, one ought to tell his or her legislator what’s important to he or she.
