Old Veritasium explainer videos are very good – for example the gravity and acceleration equivalence.

I don’t watch cosmology that much any more.

It’s obvious that’s what’s she’s doing. But i think she believes the lies at this point.

I really liked her quantum physics explainers, like the two slit experiment. I didn’t think she was fringe when she was teaching like this.

Others can say it better than me, but her videos went from well-researched science education to takedowns of the scientific process itself, hybothesis, experiment, analysis, forming new hypotheses. And takedowns of scientist in general. Conspiracies like “they’re all trying to waste taxpayer money,” which did GREAT numbers on YouTube.

I enjoyed her early videos saying “String theory is too difficult to verify experimentally, offers too little in predictive power, and gets way too much funding compared to other areas like X Y Z.” That’s a fair opinion and a discussion where rational minds can support their argument, and even agree to disagree.

“Science is sick, academia is dying, the whole field is corrupt, you can’t trust scientists” is her vibe now. You can’t have good faith arguments in that framing.

I would have liked to see The Who perform Tommy at their height… the first rock opera, and it was supposedly a sensation.

Sabine Hossenfelder, after she went full anti-science, like “and you can trust me because i am a scientist, but not like those other scientists.”

I learned French in school, but no one ever told me how modern French is a combination of divergent old French languages, “Langues D’oc” in the south where the word for yes was “oc” and “Langues d’oïl” where oui was the word for yes in the North.

From the former, we have L’Occitane, and the Languedoc region of the south of France.

They had Google lens (machine learning) before chat gpt was released to the public (llm), so i don’t usually paint it by the same AI brush.

I’ve used it quite a few times and it works pretty well for identifying things.

I’ve had a similar problem using it though. Most of the time it’s bang on, but sometimes with really hard problems, it is confidently wrong, and returns a bunch of things that look similar but are significantly different from your picture. If you are used to it being correct and aren’t in the habit of thinking critically about its answer, it is easy to be mislead by its oracular answers.

Can i ask maybe an obvious set of questions:

• Who would made this mod and why?
• Who would download it, install it, and why?

Someone once told me that blocking people to curate your feed was a valid use case and I’ve never looked back. I don’t care too much about an echo chamber if I am removing people who are absolutely unhinged.
