when I was 25 i had better to to do than lecture other people on the internet, or in real life. like hang out with my friends, my girlfriend, and working my ass off to improve my future. but i understand that for a lot of young people today, none of those are viable options in their mind, and the only option is to be insufferable and miserable towards other folks and call them names.
because god forbid you invest in yourself when you can just tear everyone else around you down to your level of misery.
and before you go ‘but they have it so hard’ no, the 25 year olds i’m talking about in my example make more money than I do, and yet they complain how broke they are non-stop. they also don’t have student debt because they had rich parents and often they are have property their parents bought for them. and if you point that out they tell you how growing up with rich parents is a disadvantage in life and how much better poor people have it than they do. it’s utterly insane.
you know also what makes someone a smug asshole? budgeting, eating right, exercising, and all the stuff we all know that are good for us. and the people who tend to hate you for doing that are the people who are broke, eat shitty food, and are lazy and refuse to take care of their health.

oh no, sorry what I’m supposed to do is tell the 25 year old throwing a tantrum over using Slack how I’m awful and terrible and they are so much smarter and better than me because their daddy bought them a 1.5 million dollar condo and that means they are true working-class proletariat, meanwhile I’m an evil boomer because I paid for mine on my own… and that somehow makes me a white privileged oppressor of themselves… even though they are also white and massively wealthier and more privileged from birth than I ever will be.
but anyway, yeah I’m the asshole. Because I don’t listen to privileged whiny twats with oppression complexes living in a delusional version of reality fueled by their inherited wealth, who fly into a emotional tantrum at the slightest hint of someone saying ‘no’ to them…

and when i try to interact with them them tell me what an asshole i am for not driving an EV or wearing Vineyard Vines or a million other stupid things they use as empty status markers, which they then turn around and articulate as the basis for being a good person. And then when the city tries to make progressive innovation in local politics, they flip out and try to vote it down, and when they lose, they throw their money away at lawyers trying to sue to stop progress, because if they can’t stop it, they can delay it and make it cost a lot more money… because tehy have to ‘protect their investment!’ we can’t allow like, working people w/ incomes less than 250K/yr to live here because that would ‘bring crime and drugs’.

my favorite is housing. they say ‘housing is a right for everyone’ but the second someone wants to add more housing they are 100% opposed to any and all new construction int heir community, because it’s ‘gentrification’ because everyone come wants to move here after they moved here is terrible and bad, but when they moved here and displaced existing diverse residents, it was ‘improving things’.
but hey, what do i know again, i lived here 20 years and I’m clearly a piece of shit human being or something, because i vote for increased housing and infrastructure expansion and the removal of parking spots in favor of bigger sidewalks and bike lanes… clearly that means I’m anti-trans Trump voting Nazi. At least, that’s how they see it. because if you vote for actually progressive policy, rather than talk about it and vote against it, you’re a bad person.
