A troubling number of fatal hit-and-runs this summer had street safety advocates calling for the mayor to release his administration's plan to reduce traffic deaths. He released one on Tuesday that centered on a crackdown on reckless motorists.
Need more than that, and everywhere. There was a death literally outside my building just a couple months ago from a hit and run. 13 year old boy on an e-scooter obeying the law saying you can’t be on the side wall with it. We even heard the whole thing, including the mother’s cry seeing the body.
All up and down this Blvd, there are memorials to victims of hit and runs. It’s disgusting the best LA is willing to do is amp up police presence, especially since this is a low income neighborhood.
Public transit has nothing to do with protecting vulnerable road users like cyclists. By definition, they’re on a bike, not in a bus or train. The only thing that helps in this case is actual bike infrastructure.

Fortunately LA has invested very heavily into public transit. There are plenty of spots that could use a subway line, though.

More transit means fewer cars. More than one method is helpful.
