People stop seeding? I kid, but seriously my torrents have never stopped seeding unless the original item was deleted, even past new machine builds. Some have being going for years at this point.
I try and keep them seeded, buti sometimes lose the volumes when I migrate to a new conaiterization thingy
I keep them for at least a year.
Only because my 6TB drive is full though.
Honestly I’m working my way towards my homelab setup to just symlink torrents because I’ve had to redownload episodes that got corrupted before.

Well normally I just do a copy and clear out the torrent when it’s got a good enough ratio. But since I found myself retorrenting episodes that got corrupted, I figure I can keep the torrent around and just use the download as the source of truth, so I don’t have to dig around for it again

This meme is exactly why private trackers exist. The normal distribution of humanity ensures some significant portion simply cannot play nice.

I burned 100TB of buffer on seedpool to remove the initial 1GB download everyone gets. No regrets, now my ratie is infinite.
Genuine question, I’ve only ever been busted or had my service suspended from seeding stuff, how would I avoid that? I feel bad but I generally cancel out of pithy self preservation unless its some real niche shit no one is paying attention to.

I personally use AirVPN as they allow port forwarding, but I also use my NAS as a seed box.
Docker -> Gluetun + qBittorrent
You went a lityle over my head there but I would appreciate an explaination of what you’re talking about.
I have a home server running docker. I have a docker container for Gluetun and qBittorrent. Gluetun connects to my VPN provider and provides a tunnel interface for the BitTorrent client to use

Yeah, that’s how I do it. Download the the VPN app (Mullvad for me), buy some time on your account, switch it on, and carry on just like before.
Easy to set up and I’ve never had a problem.

There’s regular updates to the best one so you may have to do a web search to find some privacy community/subreddit that has a comparison chart of some sort.
Last I looked Proton was popular, but I never trusted them because they seem like they want to be google. I went with Mulvad, which is a great VPN but one of the CEOs just came out as donating to nazis so I don’t even know any more.
Transmission can set seeding to 0 minutes and 0 ratio. Or use BitThief, but its performance is meh.
I tried the VPN route many moons ago, but for a combination of reasons that are probably mostly just rambling, I switched to a seedbox. It also helps if you set up the *aars since that can get you fully downloaded, and able to seed to a modest ratio so quickly that the copyright holders haven’t always discovered it yet before your client automatically stops seeding.
eh, even with private trackers… I’ve had a forked version of uTorrent for close to two decades that fakes the true upload to the tracker.
I sure do miss Demonoid though.

I seed to 10:1 ratio or 1 calendar month… whatever arrives first
For special files (anything harder to find), I let it go the month regardless of ratio

I just use a raspberry pi, leave them all going and set the upload to some manageable speed that won’t fuck up my cap. Then just tailscale in whenever I need to add something and I’m not home

I dont torrent any more, but i never paid attention to the ratio or anything. I just left stuff seeding for about 2 weeks before stopping it.

Sometimes I’ll leave a torrent up for days and my ratio is still tiny. So it’s all relative.
I have had some torrents for literal years and have not broken 1.5 ratio. Sometimes you just get low in demand torrents.
In that span of time you *may have potentially shared the entire file several times. Ideally to people who would also share at least as much as you did. Anything is better than nothing
you did better than most, but it really depends on the popularity of what you were torrenting. I’ve had stuff up for months that still hasn’t hit a 1.0 ratio, and stuff that hit 1.0 after a couple days.
Depends on what you are seeding. I leave stuff with few seeds up much longer.
