I’m a mobile developer and my desk has always been a mess because of all of the devices I need to manually test on scattered about.
This weekend I decided to finally organize my desk. To help do that I looked up some solutions for phone organization and decided instead of buying an organizer I can just design and print my own.
Used a caliper to measure the dimensions of the devices, wrote down an approximate ideal size of the organizer based on that.
Created this design in opencad after relearning the tool (haven’t used it in a few months).

Then got it printed in petg.

And voila it works. I’m pretty happy the first prototype worked as the print time was around 4 hours so I really didn’t want to have to iterate too many times.

You could put a strip of foam tape along the bottom of each cradle.

Foam tape is really really hard to remove right? When we would install batteries with it for devices, the 3M stuff was almost impossible to remove without damaging the battery.
I think your mixing up single and double sided foam tape, i beleive he is suggesting single sided foam tape to give some cushion to the edge of the phones.
Also the stuff in phones for batteries and other loose items is heavy duty strength because they dont want batteries coming loose and rattling about in there. Most double sided foam tape you get in a hardware store is just a bit sticker than regular sticky tape.
I’ve found that the best way to remove 3M’s foam-backed stuff (both single- and double-sided) is to carefully pick up one corner, then use your finger to slowly roll it up one bit at a time. The adhesive doesn’t really hold when only a small area is under stress, and it doesn’t tend to leave any residue behind.
I don’t have any tricks for the double-sided foil-backed tape, it’s a right bastard to remove.
I have a very similar(but much larger) model I use for my cutting boards.

I would also like a copy, please. I was thinking of making something like that out of wood, but 3D printing would be easier if I don’t have to design it first.
Cutting boards? How many do you have? Why even having more than one?
I have 6, but typically I only use 2, my nice Hi Soft for regular prep, and a couple dedicated raw meat board. Sometimes I’ll pull another one out for my girlfriend to do some prep at the same time, and I also have some serving boards if I feel fancy
Such a rack is also good for sheet pans.
I have one general purpose and one for meats.
Don’t dish shame! I have a whole stack of them and usually one or two in the sink and one in the dishwasher at any given time.
Because I don’t like washing prep bowls so I stage my mis en place directly on the cutting board. It’s also nice if someone wants to help cook to give them a separate cutting board (far away from me). Also also I hate having to wash the cutting board after I cut the chicken and before I cut the vegetables.
Who doesn’t have more than one? We have 5 or 6.
Oh boy, don’t get the kitchen brigade started!! I understood separate ones for meat, fish and vegetables is the absolute bare minimum or our solar system does not stand a chance to survive

i have something similar, formerly used for file folders… currently holding several closed laptop pc. i just wish it was made out of something a little sturdier than flimsy plastic.
Consider optimizing the model to be printed on it’s side so one full edge of every divider can touch the build plate. This would strengthen the dividers by making so the layer lines are perpendicular to the stress.
If done right, it could also eliminate travel moves and retractions and potentially allow for printing in vase mode.
My first wonder was how hard it would be to rig up a usb-c cable on the side of them and put a on off button with a light, so he could manually turn on off each cord knowing which are charging so he doesn’t have to leave them all charging all the time. (Originally I was thinking flip it verticod and put a qi2 coil on each stand, but leaving them all on all the time would be a bad idea)
Oh im not charging them. This was specifically not supposed to be a charge station. I put this organizer next to a couple of charging cables and charge when I need to. I power down the devices when not in use.
Oh alright, that makes sense. A while back I wanted to make a coffee table and never got around to it so I think the wireless coils are always in the back of my mind. Basically to see if for the fun of it I could make a coffee table for the living room made of wood or mixed materials near designated patterns where essentially from the top it would look normal but if you put your device on any of the designated places it would recognize your device and start charging it. Not a fan of this color/design but basically if you had say this where if done right you could basically get a small charge on any square and potentially even get the magnet to work if done right. While reinforcing it so it doesn’t structurally have any issues. Aka coffee table can be used normally, someone can spill something on it, no issues but also near thoughtless charging if anyone is in the living room.

It could even just be all the outside squares, where they lock in the center if the magnet works.
I don’t develop for mobile outside reactive websites
I just wanted to ask why exactly you need all those and why emulators don’t work well enough?
Emulators cannot re-create all the dumb bullshit and quirks that phone manufacturers put in there these days

Because interfacing with all the sensors, dealing with battery aging underclocking, and other practical usage scenarios just aren’t applicable to iphones?
Correct
Every device in that pile (aside from the pixel 1 and pixel 7 which were my old daily drivers turned test device) was purposefully purchased because we got a report/logs of a bug on that specific device and had no way of fixing the issue unless we had the actual device.
This isn’t the full stack of devices I have but these are the devices we’ve had problems with in the past and what I frequently test with these days.
Not every phone is as capable as an iPhone Pro Ludicrous. If you don’t want your software to suck balls, test with slower devices.
And Throttle the network because not every user has fiber and WiFi 7 on a network colocated with the dev server

Curious as to why? Seems like a reasonable application for PLA.
From what I’ve heard, PLA sags when a constant force is applied. Phones arent that heavy so it might have worked here but technically since the phone is leaning against the plastic the entire time I guess it could sag over time?
I never liked PLA anyways since I primarily print functional studd and I have been printing exclusively in PETG once I got comfortable with it so I didnt really think too much about the material.
I see. I use PLA for lots of load bearing tasks and I don’t think you’d see warping here. Nonetheless there’s no real disadvantage to PETG other than slower print speed and fuzzimg if it’s not kept really dry.
